WHY [wit] Exists

[wit] fills an unmet need on campus because it provides a platform for underrepresented voices in the arts. Even at Stanford, the performing arts industry is pervasively male-dominated. [wit] allows artists of marginalized genders on campus to explore dynamic characters (the majority of which are written by, and originally intended for, men), leadership positions, and creative roles that would not be available otherwise.

We are committed to elevating the voices of all traditionally marginalized groups. As such, we encourage any Stanford students who are part of such groups to work on our shows, regardless of experience level. Intersectional identities welcome.

Mission Statement

[wit] is a group committed to elevating marginalized gender identities and expressions in theater. [wit] does so through alternative-gender casting, works containing gender-conscious themes, works written by gender minorities (including original work by Stanford students), small-scale shows, and workshops to facilitate discussions about gender.
